Champion State of Mind

Every athlete that ever became a champion didn’t become that by running one race, neither did winning a medal stop them from running again. If you love what you do more than what you get out of it, your passion and effort will always be rewarded, whether you get accolades or not.No one honors or remembers a quitter, and your greatness is only memorable through your consistent strive for it. Success and failure are decided by us and how we react to obstacles because you could either fall and choose to stay on the ground out of fear to fall again, or you could choose to get up and keep moving; if you fall again, at least it will be far from where your journey started.Giving up on what you believe in or what could possibly change your life is as good as giving up on yourself and steering away every wonderful thing that has the potential to make you truly happy and bring meaning to your life. As cliché as it may sound, you have a purpose, and in the pursuit of your happiness through that purpose, let your heart drive you. Along the way, you will experience many things; some good and some bad, but either way, those experiences are what will help you grow and equip you with the wisdom to handle any obstacle you might face in the future. This life road we are born into has no maps or obvious paths that are clear to us, so tripping and taking wrong turns is bound to happen at some point, and the shortcut to being lost is staying in one spot hoping to be found. Even hikers don’t get much further if all they do is wave their thumbs without moving forward in the direction of where they desire to be. What if no ride is offered to them?It will be too late by the time they decide to make their way ahead. Some of the richest people we know were once boys/men and girls/women who went to bed with nothing to eat, but their hunger for food could never equal their hunger for life, and that is what woke them up everyday: the will to achieve and the drive to succeed. The time they could have wasted by waiting for someone to feed them is the time they decided to sacrifice to put themselves in positions to not only afford food, but a position to never have to worry about starving again. Some of them even studied under candlelight in conditions where concentration was constantly broken by either other occupants of their homes or by frustrations of not being where they want to be in life.In choosing not to give up, even without certainty of how their lives would turn out, they had already made their first step of achievement. The most powerful thing that determines the course of one’s life is choice, and it makes or breaks you, hence we have consequences and regrets. The absence of one or both of these means the decision was right. You could fail a dozen times and keep trying, by the time you succeed you will have learned resiliency and the patience it takes to accomplish one goal at a time. You could try once and things might not go as you had hoped, but if you let that stop you, you have certified yourself as a failure forever. People who keep trying are better than those who succeed once and never attempt anything new. There is a common saying in sports: “You are only as good as your last shot.” If you miss and concede defeat, you have let it be known that you are a loser, but if you look for more opportunities for another shot, you are likely to find yourself in a position that is advantageous to your attempts. I am not saying it will be simple, but the value of your victory lies in how hard you work for it.A race is always hardest towards the finish line. There are other participants in that marathon who want the trophy more than you do, but the one who deserves it is the one who values the race itself. Each of us has some form of race that they are running; whether it is to complete studies, find a job, career growth or just trying to better ourselves in order to have good relationships, we all want to improve our lives. What we become is what we decide to be, whether the choice is deliberate or we allowed circumstances to dictate our future. With limitless possibilities and opportunities at our disposal, let us make the most of our todays so we can get the most out of our tomorrows.
