Dear Baby

Yes you my child, the one I will (if not already) love with every fibre of my being. I write this to you to tell you that I will try my hardest to be there for you. I promise to never leave you in the dark.

You have white grandparents but don’t be confused my dear for they are my parents. Maybe no one will give you the looks or wonder if perhaps you’re the helper’s daughter or son.

I promise to guide you and teach you all you need to know to be a strong and independent individual. Baby you will make it far, I have faith in you and whatever you may decide to embark on. You will be successful in whatever you do.

I cannot promise that I will always be understanding of every situation that you encounter but I hope that even in the midst of our many arguments that you will never doubt my intentions.

You can always come to me when you need to talk about ANYTHING. If anyone ever touches you, says something to make you feel uncomfortable in even the smallest way NEVER hesitate to come to me and tell me.
I don’t care if that person is your most FAVOURITE uncle or aunt, you tell me IMMEDIATELY.

I hope that you always know that my sole goal will be to protect you as best as I can. At times you will be faced with difficult decisions and when that time comes I know that you will make the right decision for you.

Your grandmother, Theresa Jwaha, passed away years and years before you came to be but I know that wherever she is, she is protecting you too.

Your grandmother, Theresa Jwaha, passed away years and years before you came to be but I know that wherever she is, she is protecting you too. Your grandmother was a fiercely strong woman, a lioness who’d do ANYTHING to protect her young. I am sorry that you were not able to meet her.

I hope that I live long enough to see you have your first day in high school, graduate from varsity/college and get married (to whomever you love and returns that love too) and have your own little ones as well. I hope that I make you proud and that even when I do embarrassing mom things that you can forgive me.

Mostly though, Baby, I hope that no matter what and above it all, know that I love you unconditionally and that no matter what you do, my love for you will never ever falter. For part of me will always be within you.

I cannot wait to meet you…
Love,
Your Mother,
Always,
Thandeka Jwaha
